Gustavo MarquesVocalist and guitarist Gustavo Marques grew up surrounded by music in his home city of Sao Paulo, Brazil. He studied at the 'Groove' School of Music for seven years, and soon after formed his first band 'Rebento' (Luiz Roberto, bass; Eduardo Marques, drums) playing MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira). After over six years of playing regularly on the thriving Sao Paulo music scene, Gustavo made the move to Europe, and has become a leading figure on the London Brazilian music scene for over four years. Gustavo can work self-contained, singing popular latin songs, accompanying himself on guitar. With his band, Gustavo plays a mixture of Bossa nova, Brazilian 70's funk, Chorinho, Afoxé and Samba. He and his band have just released their first album "Jazz Popular Brasileira" (Candid Records).
RepertoireGustavo and his band perform a whole range of latin styles from bossa nova, samba and jazz funk. They can play the most subtle romantic 'background' music to rip-roaring funk for a non-stop party. They have performed at numerous London venues including Dingwalls, National Theatre (foyer), 100 Club, Pizza Express (Dean St.), The Blue Jay, 606 Club, Bar Havana, Royal Festival Hall (Foyer), Guanabara Bar and Cargo.
