The Boyle Klöfver Duo

Stylish flute and guitar

The Boyle Klöfver Duo is a young and exciting flute and guitar ensemble exploring unknown musical territory and breaking musical boundaries. They are equally at home in the classics as in lesser known repertoire by composers of today and tomorrow. Kimberley Boyle and Nils Klöfver both studied at the Royal College of Music in London and are now busy performing in the UK and abroad.

Kimberley Boyle - flute

Kimberley Boyle was brought up in Perthshire, Scotland where she enjoyed music from an early age- learning recorder, guitar and singing. She took up the flute at the age of 11. In her final year at school she attended the RSAMD Junior Department in Glasgow on Saturdays and then in 2000, aged 17, Kimberley moved to London to take up a place at the Royal College of Music. She graduated in 2004 with a First Class Honours degree.

Kimberley was then awarded bursaries from the Musicians Benevolent Fund, The Countess of Munster Musical Trust, Sir James Caird Travelling Scholarships Trust and The Cross Trust which enabled her to continue her studies at postgraduate level. In 2005, Kimberley won the RCM Senior Wind Prize and achieved a distinction in Orchestral Performance.

Since graduating, Kimberley has been based in London as a freelance musician and flute teacher. Her performance work includes recital engagements with Duo Nouveau - her flute and piano duo, and orchestral playing. Most recently she has been on trial for the position of second flute with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and is also an extra player for several orchestras including the London Philharmonic Orchestra and Britten Pears Orchestra.

Nils Klöfver

Nils Klöfver is a prize-winning Swedish guitarist based in London. Active as a concerto soloist, a solo performer and in various ensembles, he is enjoying a busy freelance career with engagements in recording studios as well as in concert halls.

Nils graduated from the Bachelor of Music (Hons) course at the Royal College of Music in 2006 with a first class degree. In the same year he also won first prize in the yearly Royal College of Music Guitar Competition, made his debut at the Wigmore Hall and appeared as a finalist in the distinguished Jörgen Rörby competition in Sweden.

Apart from performing on the standard classical guitar Nils is also a sought-after alto guitarist – an eleven-string instrument merging together the best qualities from the renaissance lute with the modern guitar. The alto-guitar is particularly suitable for early music and presents an exciting way of playing lute repertoire.

Nils has performed frequently with appearances in concert series, music festivals and in outreach work programmes in schools and hospitals. He has appeared in The Wigmore Hall, St. John Smith Square, The House of Commons, Downing Street, The Barbican Centre and The Bolivar Hall among others.
